Artisan cheesemongers are a world away from mass produced
Visit our cheese counter to see the superb selection our deli manager and cheesemonger, Jo has selected for Christmas. Jo trained at Neal’s Yard Dairy in London and knows all there is to know about looking after cheese to ensure it is at its very best for you.
Artisan cheese, made in small batches requires care if it is to be eaten at its very best. Jo looks after all the cheese and makes sure it is at the right temperature. She has ordered all the traditional Christmas favourites, such as Colston Bassett Stilton, Keen’s Cheddar and Brie (have you tasked Baron Bigod our British Brie – it’s superb). There is also a fabulous selection of more unusual cheeses that you might like to try with friends and family this year.
The difference between mass produced and artisan cheese is so obvious as soon as you sample some of the hand made, properly cared for cheeses. The flavour stands out and lingers. What better than to sit down with your favourite people with a quality cheeseboard, some good wine to match, pickles, handmade crackers and fruit. It is in fact a meal in itself and is to be savoured. You may detect a tone of obsession with cheese, and yes,we are pretty obsessed.
We are always delighted to chat about cheese and for you to sample some that you haven’t tasted before and that you would perhaps like to take home. Just pop into the deli and take a look.
